I sincerely hope this brief glimpse into the world of COMMON SENSE MEDIA campaign finance has given you a better understanding of what the now mobilizing anti-#BS18 ARMY is up against. Unfortunately, experience has taught me most won’t spend more than a few seconds educating and informing themselves with this publicly available information.  In all honesty, which of those reading this blog post have even bothered to read the COMMON SENSE MEDIA’S CHILDREN’S PRIVACY POLICY?

Be honest.

  1. I’m curious what you find problematic about Common Sense Media’s child privacy policy? I have read it in its entirety and I’m actually quite pleased with it. What is it that concerns you?
    Thanks for your thoughts.

    • “We do not disclose to third parties any children’s personal information that we collect other than as follows,” “(c) to third-party service providers” ROFLMAO!

In addition to the ‘Children’s Privacy Policy’ there is also a ‘Privacy Policy’…

“We and third parties who provide services to us may also collect certain information automatically when you visit the Services, including through the use of cookies and web beacons, such as the browser you are using (e.g., Safari, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, etc.), the internet address from which you linked to the Services, the operating system of your computer (e.g., Microsoft Windows, iOS, Android, etc.), the unique IP address of the computer you used to access our Services and usage and browsing habits. We use this information to administer and improve your experience on our Services, to help diagnose and troubleshoot potential server malfunctions, and to gather use and demographic information. Some of these third parties may use this information for other purposes.”

      • The Privacy Policy is fine, including what you quoted above.

Mollom is a third-party anti-spam service and their privacy policy states that they don’t keep personally identifiable information, either. But they do need to analyze the text of a post to ensure a spam bot hasn’t registered an account and isn’t trying to post about sunglasses or handbags. It also checks for vulgar words.

Since I personally use and recommend their service to my clients, I also happen to know that though they do receive the username (it gets tested for spamminess, too), they are unlikely to get the age or any other personally identifiable information from the web site. And if they do they don’t retain it (per their policy).

I haven’t looked at the crazy egg Privacy Policy but it’s likely similar.

Your concern about privacy is valid but there is no problem in this situation that I can see.
